Well, I finally used the Ulu knife, we bought in Alaska on a Christmas Cheese platter. This is our previous post on our Ulu purchase.

What a beautiful knife it is!
I wonder how that beautiful pattern is carved on the surface.

The cool part is it is not carved it is the metal itself, it is called Damascus steel. You take many piece of steel and push them together an then pound them flat on the top, so your seeing the top part of each piece of steel, then make the metal from there, it is supposed to be stronger than typical steel.

I didn’t know Damascus steel. Thank you for an informative reply. I searched the word and understood that your knife is really cool.

Thanks Andy, I only learned about it recently as well. My husband watches a show called forged in fire, it’s a knife making competition, and learned about it while watching with him.

It is special, they are very useful for so many things, in Alaska – used from anything like skinning animals or cutting hair we learned, but I like it as a party cheese slicer. You are really lucky, they are very cool. Your friend must really love you!
