We took the girls to the Detroit Zoo today. When they were younger, this was their favorite day. They still loved it. We have not been in two years and we see a lot of changes, including the tiger exhibit.

Butterfly house at the Detroit Zoo.
Since our daughters are in college now, we know we get less and less of these fun days with them, so just enjoying this time together.
I love the zoo!

When I first saw the lemur, I thought of Zoboomafoo! Did your kids ever watch that? My little sister used to love that show!

Prosperity, yep, we for sure watch that show. I watched it with them, because I was a stay at home mommy way back then. Remember how he bounced on his tail, I dont think they do that, but who knows …

The zoo is one of my favorite places to go no matter where it is. I lived in Ohio for years, so the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds were my stomping grounds. ~Rita

Iβm surprised Mr. Stay Puft hasnβt been eaten or at least popped by the gators! Nice photos and thank you for the reminder, as Iβve been meaning to get to the Bronx Zoo before the weather gets cold and the trees are barren.

Bug buddy, you should, there was practically no one there and all the animals were frisky. We decided this is our new favorite time to go.

That place looks wonderful and the sense of humour on the exhibits was a plus! The butterfly that was wanting to be on camera so much looked beautiful and we enjoyed the introspective lemur. Thank you for sharing!

So true StarTwo. Those are our daughters, both in school to study 3D animation, and then afterward 2D animation. We all love your site, but, especially them.

Thank you so much! We’ll confess that secretly (well, not anymore!) we’re rooting for them to have all the strength needed and always feed the passion that can move mountains. We also studied 3D and 2D animation back in 2005 so here’s some extra cheering from us!

Our kids loved the Toronto Zoo when they were young and this summer we took our grandson. He loved it so the tradition is continuing. It is nice to spend time with our kids who are now adults. Our son lives in England and has a job that involves a lot of travel. But lucky for us he has a job that pays well enough for him to come and visit us! Our daughter lives only 2 hours away so that is nice.

Anne, we do enjoy hanging out with the kids for sure, especially since we know they are older and enjoying there own lives now. The zoo has always been our favorite. Were sure you miss your son so much, our oldest is in the air force and is gone all the time. From parent to parent.

Yes it is a tough separation. Our son is now on a project in Serbia. But will be back and forth to London where he lives. My daughter is married to a very nice man who is in the Canadain air force . He has done active service in Afghanistan but now is involved with teaching engineering training for the big planes. He took that direction so he could be home with his family. Parent of the next generation.

The best part was – you could see them crawling out, then they release them everyday into the room!

That’s cool I used to collect caterpillar and make them cocoon and wait till butterflies come out, and I used collect grasshoppers when I was little. Lmao! Recently when I went to Guam I caught a few and chased my kids around with it. They were so scared, but it was super funny.

Sounds fun chasing the kids, we are really starting to think about grandkids. Now as a scientist kid, Laura used to capture bugs and perform chemistry experiments with them (not nice) and I was chasing the girls with them.

That lemur reminds me of my cat. We have a butterfly museum here in our city and the best part was watching the butterflies hatch. Looks like you all had a great time. Love the Halloween decor at the zoo.

We were not expecting the Halloween dΓ©cor out, since we have never been to the zoo this late in the season, but I guess Zoo Boo is a big deal that we have missed for years!

They open up our city zoo in the evening for trick or treaters. The kids dress up and go around collecting candy from different stations throughout the zoo. I think they are still doing that. My kids are college age now so who knows whats going on in the kiddie events.

Yep, see, we never did that, so we missed out, but I guess they are doing it here too….
